In Motion: The African-American Migration Experience is a multimedia web site that examines African-American history by looking at specific periods of migration. I managed the technical development of the site for the New York Public Library and participated in every aspect of it.
The site features:
- Over 16,000 pages of digitized text, 8,500 historical images, as well as maps, lesson plans and several different types of original content, all of which is searchable from a single search box.
- The site is built upon a ColdFusion MX / Java architecture, and makes extensive use of XML, XSL Transformations and the open-source Java search engine API Lucene. It also features several Flash-based tools for navigating the site and finding information.
