The NYPL Digital Gallery is an image database with over 250,000 images drawn from the collections of the Research Libraries. I developed the back-end architecture for this site, which uses Java classes to extract image metadata from an Oracle database, create XML from it, and then index the XML using the open-source Java search engine API Lucene.
